Anybody know anything about ez-go electric cart 36 volt chargers? I have one that quit working and could use some help trouble shooting it.

It has no output voltage. I checked the big fuse inside and it is good as is the circuit breaker.

Any input would be great.

Thanks,

Greg

My dad left the power on all winter on his EZ GO and ran the batteries completely flat and as Ralph said, the charger wouldn't do anything because there was no voltage, so he took it to the cart repair shop and they ran jumper cables to it from another cart to put a little charge in the batteries, then the charger started working and it charged them up. This might not solve the problem but it's a way to help diagnose it. Jim

Thanks guys, I got her going. She had one bad cable. The charger was fine. Like was said, if it can't see voltage it will not kick in. Fixed the bad cable and off she went.

Thanks,

Greg

I'm not sure about your particular model but some chargers will provide no output until they "see" battery voltage. If you measure the charger output without it being hooked to a battery it will measure near zero. If you hook it to a completely discharged battery it will not charge. I think it's a safety feature to prevent trying to charge a shorted battery. If you're trying to charge a completely discharged battery you will have to partially charge it by some other means in order to get the charger to work. If the 36 volt battery consists of three 12 volt batteries, you may be able to charge each one individually with a 12 volt charger for perhaps 15 minutes each to bring the voltage up so the regular charger will work.

I tore a charger for my uncle's electric scooter apart before I discovered this problem.
