Does anyone know an easy way to remove 30 yr old ceramic tile from a bathroom tub wall, at the rate I'm going it'll take me 8 to 10 hours.

Take it down to the studs and re-build from there. Just took some 20 year old tile off the walls in a small bathroom and if it doesn"t tear the wall board off it leaves some big craters that take forever to mud back in.

butcher the hell out of the walls and put up new cement board. Why the frickin' heck would you work yourself to death to save $15 worth of cement board

Dremel makes a bit that is specially made for tile grout. It's about the only thing a Dremel is really good at.

A sledgehammer and a Sawzall will make short work of it. Doing it that way will require you to put new backer board on the studs, but that stuff's cheap compared to wearing yourself out all day.

Talked to a "tile man" fore I posted this. He said, "It ought to take a man an a helper about four to six hours to strip a tub surround. The older it is the longer it'll take. One feller workin by hisself, that ain't never done it before, if he gets done in 8 to 10 hours with out tearing some thing up-well he's been working pretty hard."

As I know you know by now, the toughest part is cutting out the old grout. Just finished removing the tile on 5 foot vanity surround and I used a grout cutting blade in a detail sander. If the substrate is sheetrock and the adhesive mastic, the tiles pop off with the top layer of wallboard paper fairly readily using a thin flexible blade putty knife. If the substrate is plaster with thinset adhesive I think you"ll do better knocking out the wall section with a sledge and installing new cement board backing.
