Trailer brakes electric -vs -hydraulics ?

Iam going to be putting a new {to me anyway} tandem trailer on the road will be a reciever hitched, bumper pulled unit Will be pulled with a 2500 series GM product I expect, and will have about 2800# of 650 JD w/loader and counter weight, at most a MM bf (2900#). I would like to know all the good,the bad,the ugly, and all the tricks to have a good safe setup, I feel sure there is a lot of more experienced haulers out there that can give some good sound advice in the ways of how it is done. Electric brakes (NOT surge brakes), an electronic brake controller (Tekonsha is good). Hopefully you have the trailer prep kit including wiring harness in the tow vehicle. Get the tongue load correct. This requires a hitch at the right level. Be sure to get and correctly use safety chains. Depending on where you live, lights may be mandatory and are a good idea anyway.

I would agree in a heartbeat on electric. Living in Ontario, and having to trailer on occasion in the snow (rain is not much different though). I have had a couple times in the past with hydraulic surge brakes where applying the vehicle brakes to activate the trailer would have resulted in a jack-knife. With the electric, if conditions are such, I have used the manual button on the controller to apply the trailer brakes, effectively slowing trailer and tow vehicle down safely. If they lock up because its slippery, you can still steer and control the vehicle.

Can any one help me with this electric brake problem? I have a 1998, 19 ft Dutchman travel trailer with tandem wheels. My electric brakes are far too sensitive. I've tried three different electric brake controllers and they make no difference. The brakes start activating on the very low end of the manual travel and too soon on automatic. Any ideas or ideas where I can find more information would be appreciated.
