All,I have a Husq that my Mother-in-law- had let me use. It ran well for a bit of time, and now it won"t run as well as it had. It kind of powers-out. I don"t have an owners manual, I checked the air filter, the fuel is properly mixed (runs well in the Poulan). I turned the H and L screws in and out and some changes were evident. It seemed both screws were all the way out. Can anyone give me some sound advice as to what to look for, how to check, or a website that I could pull some info from? Thanks in advance for the polite replies.

Randy, Butch, and 135 Fan: Thanks for your responses. I am going to take a look today and see how this chainsaw comes apart. I have yet another question for you fellows, can I look at the piston condition without buying some rebuild gasket set? I have never tore a chainsaw apart before, if you can tell. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Thanks again,

Yes the piston is easy, assuming you can get at the muffler. Except for damage from injesting dirt the piston will score first on the exhaust side and can be easily seen through the exhaust port. Discoloration is normal as is small scratches (like from wire brush). If the piston skirt looks like you drug it down a graval driveway it is taosted.

Well, here's the results: I took off the exhaust, the piston looked fine, no scoring, dark brown on the crown, no deep gouges. I also took the carb off and did a partial rebuild. I didn't do the full rebuild due to the welsh? plug. I tried to remove it and was afraid I'd never get the new one on correctly. I used a lot of carb cleaner, a fine copper wire to poke in the openings. I ran it for about a tank of gas cuttng logs. So far I am pleased with how it's running. Thanks for all the help,

If the saw will run what so ever with both screws all the way out you have either a fuel supply problem, (cracked fuel lines, bad diaphrams, carb gaskets or dirt) Or a real big crankcase vacuam leak. The lean conditon you have will destroy the piston real quick in use. The link below is a good site for info and generaly a good bunch of guy to hang around with on the chain saw board.

I bought a 55 rancher because they are supposed to be a really good heavy duty saw. They said that after a while there is a plastic piece on the carb that needs replacing. I think it's the intake. I can't remember. Good saw though. Hope this helps. Dave
