I just used Super Deck brand, Cedar color. I stained it yesterday, Saturday and the finish is real tacky, I used the same stuff as before and I dont remember getting the tacky finish, it should go away with the sun beating on it. I may have put it on too heavy. Question? What brand do you guys use on your deck? I have the 5/4 cedar for top boards.

I prefer Penofin. It soaks into the wood, so there's nothing on the surface to get tacky, and you don't have to strip it to refinish.

Quite frankly, I see no reason to put any finish on decks, particularly pressure-treated pine. However, my better half thinks otherwise. Penofin is the next best thing to no finish at all.

Penofin is excellent, but...The James lumber in Ortonville closed up and I got the Super Deck for 1/2 off last year. Where in Spr. twp do you live?

Midwest, my deck has been stained about 5 times in its lifetime. FINALLY, the last stain did not go in at all in my "paint test area" on the deck. So, I used a product that is a sort of paint-stain combo. It sunk in and it looks like a painted deck.

I forget the name of the paint, it was Cabot??

I had to paint the deck. Stain wouldn't stain! LOL!

I am thinking of buying a pressure washer and power washing the top in a few months and starting with a fresh bare surface. I bleached the deck Friday night and last weekend to get it ready for staining.

I made the same mistake. My deck has 5/4 cedar boards and I had the same problem. I used Flood CWF-uv. Great product as the first time I put it on the cedar, everything was fine. The 3rd year I put another coat on and it did not soak in like the first and was tacky for a whole year. I finally had to remove the tacky coat and redo it with a much thinner coat. Good Luck.

We use the Olympic semi-transparent deck stain. Seems to work well for us. Tom

Mine is 2X6 cedar and I use Flood CWF every two or three years. I've never had that problem, but I put it on pretty thin.
