Need Help with finding excellent wood glue

I need to glue a spruce bulkhead that has developed some cracks. I would be greatful for advice on name of wood glue that is both strong and thin so it will penatrate the cracks. It does not have to be waterproof but it must provide a strong bond. Thanks for any help

Try this. Aircraft Spruce sells it. My local True Value has it, too.

Zap-a-gap.

Came across this one some years ago in gun repairs. Very thin, very strong, not bothered by oily surfaces. Perfect for regluing cracked and split gun stocks, where failure is not an acceptable possibility.

Works remarkably well at filling wood pores for refinishing as well.

Gorilla glue. best stuff i ever found. however it does bubble out of any cracks, but let it dry good and sand it off.

If you use a wood working glue, like Elmers, brush some water into the wood first, then the glue will soak into the wood much better.

I don't care for the polyurethane glues such as Gorilla Glue. They have a tendency to bubble out of the joint and make a mess.

If you can clamp your work tight, then any decent glue will work. If you can't clamp, then epoxy is the only way to go. WEST System epoxy is one of the best, and it is thin enough to penetrate into the wood. (The idea is you mix it with additives if it needs to be thicker.) Try to spread some into the crack with a toothpick or brush, then let it sit for a couple of minutes. Add a second coat if necessary, then hold the pieces together anyway you can.

With WEST, there are "fast" and "slow" hardeners; the "slow" hardener is really for hot weather. You can speed up the cure by letting the mixed glue sit in a container until it "kicks off" and starts to heat up.

Be sure to have some acetone or MEK on hand to clean up any mess.

Phenolics are perhaps best for marine use. Not found at the usual sources. Some woods react when wet to ruin the bonds with epoxy. Do some research on that.

Hardware stores, walmart, home depot, have Gorilla Glue. I have used it for all sorts of things. from wood to glueing the bumper back together on my daughters car. Great stuff.

Good Glue as Polyurethanes go. Cost is high, don't get it on your Hands or Fingers. Two part Epoxy/Resin is the strongest Glue around.

How big are the cracks and how extensive. Is this a plywood bulkhead that is delaminating? About the best wood glue out there is epoxy resin . It is thinner than epoxy glue like you get at the hardware. You would do well to go to the WEST SYSTEM web site and see what you can find out. Marine stores that sell it also have free lit. regarding how to use it.
