i bought a 300 gallon gravity tank a while back and i bought a new hose to put on it which i think is 10 foot. i just put fuel in it and im assuming the hose is to long because if u hold it down to the ground fuel will come out but if u put it up to the tank it will just barely come out. im guessing i need a shorter hose?

An awfull lot of those fuel filters need pressure behind them. Old trucks and tractors have screens and bowls. Remember that you get a couple of pounds of pressure for every foot of drop. That is why you get flow when you have the hose real down near the ground. Jeffcat

for each 2.31 foot you either gain or lose 1 p.s.i. depending on weather you are pushing/pumpin up or down.

I used pipe fittings the same size as coming from the tank to filter, I believe 1". Out of the tank, then elbow and down, then elbow to level again and attach filter. If you need it can take photo and send.

I think "gravity" is key here. Gravity is what develops the pressure to allow the fuel to flow through the hose, and the closer the end of the hose is to the level of fuel in the tank, the less flow there will be. When they are equal, there will be no flow. Also, for gravity flow to work, there needs to be a vent in the top of the tank, Make sure there is, and that it is not plugged.

I had the same problem with an antique visible glass fuel pump. Look back in search and around 2/20/07 , I think subject was fuel tank filter and you can read the whole thread and see if you think this will apply to you. Mine works good now.
