john deere gator fuel system

OT- I have a john deere gator,(old style. single front wheel). it has the 9 hp kawasaki engine. the fuel pump quit working so i replaced it but i still cant get fuel to pump. it looks like the engine has a vacuum hose running to the fuel pump. there is no vacuum when i take the line loose.(i temporaily hooked up a gravity feed tank to test) i removed the engine to get a better look but the fitting for the hose looks like its commig right off the engine block. its not stopped up but i cant figure out how to ck it any further without taking the engine completley apart and i dont want to do that if possible. have any of you guys worked on these or know how the fuel system is suppose to work?

An acquaintance of mine had big trouble after playing in a mud hole with his Club Car. It has a 9 hp Kawasaki engine. Finally he figured out that mud had slopped over a breather vent on the fuel pump. Once he cleared that he was good to go again.

My newish Ez-Go golf cart wouldn't run in cold weather and I complained on the Net about it. In an email an Ez-Go mechanic in Minneapolis told me to drain the tube running from the crankcase to the fuel pump. I took it off, two drops of water fell out, and the cart has run well since. It sounds from your posting as though you have this covered, though.

Good luck. The guys on the Buggies Unlimited Forum are reasonably informative, though not nearly as interesting to read as those on YT.
