Penncraft 220v Stick Welder

I'm not familiar with Penncraft welders specifically but I'll bet it's similar to Montgomery Ward's PowrKraft brand which was sold during about the same period. I've used both AC and AC/DC PowrKrafts and find them decent machines with a few drawbacks. First, like most small, inexpensive, transformer welders they have low open circuit voltage so they can make it hard to strike and maintain an arc, and they can be very choosy about what electrodes they will run well. Second, while they usually come equipped with some kind of locking arrangement to keep the amperage from changing while you are welding, these don't always work. I presently have an AC/DC PowrKraft which absolutely will not stay locked at an amperage setting. I have to put a long bar clamp across the face of the welder and use a pinch clamp to hold the selector lever to the bar. It's actually pretty easy to do and it works well, but I foresee trouble selling the method to a prospective buyer. I wish I'd sold the machine before I found out about its problem.
