Has any one used Magna 402 or 403 hardfacing rod?

Hi mph,

Sorry, haven't used them. Thought I'd mention, though, that you might want to take extra care not to breathe the fumes from either of those rods. I assume Manga stands for manganese, which would make sense because manganese is used to make hard steel---railroad rails, for instance. Prolonged exposures to manganese fumes causes a condition which is indistinquishable from Parkinsonism. Occasional exposure is probably no more dangerous than occasional exposure to airborne asbestos fibers, or handling cupric arsenate treated lumber with your bare hands. OSHA might have fits about those things but the reality is that if you do something that decreases your life expectancy by eight seconds or less, you probably won't know the difference.

All the best, Stan

yes but for the cost of a activated carbon respirator, it just doesnt make any sense to not wear one. I wear one and use those cheap white masks and cut out covers to keep the prefilters clean. Just working with gridning metal and stuff, the mask gets filthy. I also wear it when I weld, cuase just standard rods give off fumes that arent too good for you. I imagine manganese is alot worse.
