I have to buy at least one of these "DOT/UN OSHA Approved 5 gallon Gas Cans". The cheapest I have found so far is $181.17 and is still way more than it is worth! It has to be 5 gallons and have the roll bars on the top to work for the USFS on my Water tender to hold gas for the pumps. I realy need 4 of these to last a while but can't afford $724.68 plus shipping for 4 gas cans!!! This is required by the US Forest Service as equipment on my Tender. I need to order one Monday due to my inspection. Thanks for any help on this. Mark H.

Why don't you switch the engines over to diesel ones. Much better efficiency and less chance of going kaboom. I assume less hassles too. Then again it is the US gov't!

Mainly because I have over $4,000.00 worth of brand new gasoline Honda pumps on it now. That would be way more of a investment than the fuel cans. Having the Honda Engines I can get one over night and back on the pump in one day from many places. If the pump goes down I am off the fire and one reason I have 2 back ups just in case. I blew a pump housing apart once off a fire hyndrant. I forgot to open a valve to the tank and it over pressured the housing. You should have seen the look on my face when I heard the pop and water blowing all over the place! Lucky I had a back up and could keep working. After that happen I now have a seperate fill pipe right into my tank that is ideit proof! Mark H.

Have you considered installing a larger fuel tank and plumbing all your pumps to run off it?
I would remove the fuel tanks off the engines and install, say a 50gal tank on the truck frame then plumb the engines to the larger tank. You could hook up a low pressure electric fuel pump to supply fuel to the carbs.
Just a thought, altho you're dealing with the gov. so it may not be allowed.

Well I will know Monday if they let my present system fly that I have been using for over 3 years now no problems. If not it looks like I will keep it anyways and just have one of there phoney DOT/OSHA tanks on the truck for show, there never know the difference anyway. I feel for the other guys they need to re/baffle there water tanks next year to NFPA 1906 Standards no larger than 4 ft square chambers(6 in my tank 2500 gals)! I built my tank and put them in knowing this was coming up some day and next year it is required! They will have to cut open there tanks and add them to it. Mark H.

Man I feel sorry for you! The more the Gov. gets their fingers in the pie the worsser it gets! That roll cage model looks as if it could bounce down five miles of bad road and not spill a drop. Also I bet that some official has a brother or friend in the gas can business! My $.o2 Jeffcat

The extra steel protection adds 10 lbs more weight to the tank compaired to the same type with out the bars and stronger top with no seams. Mark H.

Could you mount a permenent tank on the truck somewhere like under the bed and then have one of those for a transfer tank.

I have a 28 gal fuel tank now that I use. It is approved by the Coast Gaurd for gaosoline or deisle and also approved by a boating inspection asso for perminet fuel tank. I used it last year and I have a fill hose to fill the pumps off it. I am going to push the issue that it is OK and a better system to use. You just fill this one at the gas station like you would a car or truck. It is mounted inside a frame on the top of the tank out of the way of stuff and easy to fill. Mark H.

Here is a picture of the Gas Tank I use now. It is out of the way from getting damaged, lower than my cab or hose reel on the truck. Also it is inside a cage area strapped down(2), rubber protection around and under it. The tank is in the upper right hand area of the picture. Mark H.

I have 3 pumps on the truck plus a pressure washer that uses gasoline. I can go thru a gallon a hour real easy on the big pump alone filling and pumping the 2,500 gal tank. That is why 5 gals is not enought fuel. I need to be out in the tooleys away from gas stations for several days at a time fighting fires. After a few days they get a fuel truck out to the fires to feed our Tenders the fuel they use. Mark H.

Because that would make sence and were dealing with the goverment. They want a non spill, back/flame proof nozzle, roll bar protected valves, auto shut off if dropped ect to protect stupid people. Mak H.

That one is not the right type (no role bars) like in this picture off there site. They want $181.00 for this one but I just found another one at $165.00 at a different place. Not sure they can go lower than that price. Mark H.
