My weedeater won't start, something about gasoline

I'm a HS student doing lawns for light cash, but one problem: after a while of use, my weedeater stopped working. My grandpa said something about mixing the gasoline with some type of oil. But my dad opposes this. someone help, pls

What make and model weed wacker are you talking about, this info may help in determining where to look -- just a thought but have you taken the ehxuast apart to see if the screen is plugged??

If the wacker is a 2 cycle and you didn't mix oil in the gas, it's toast. If the wacker stalls when warm but starts cold, lean the carb fuel a bit.

As was said..read the manual or talk to a repair shop. Most, if not all, weed whackers use an oil mix...probably around 40-1, that is , 40 units of gas to 1 of oil. It must be two cycle oil, not motor oil. If you've been running it without oil, I'll bet that you've scored the cylinder walls and probably fused the piston rings. It's junk now. Pull the cylinder head and take a peek, you'll see the piston and the cylinder wall.

In California, most new weed-whackers are 4-cycle, not 2-cyle, and do not require oil to be added to the fuel. This is a state regulation in response to air quality issues.

Most everywhere else, week whackers are indeed 2 cycle.

If it was a 2 cycle engine and you did not add oil to gas it's hosed throw it out and go buy a new one cheaper than fixing . Read the book on the next one and also try to find straight gas with out alcohol the oil stays mixed .sounds like dad gave you bad advise .

Read the manual. Most string trimmers that I have seen require oil mixed with the gas, just like a chainsaw. The manual will tell you what proportions to use, probably the dealer has small bottles that you use one per gallon of gas. Once you know you can buy more at almost any hardware or farm supply store.
