I need to fence off about 10 acres. My question is what is the best way to make sure you keep line posts aligned with corner posts? I don't want a jagged looking fence.

Doug, i run a lot of hi-tensile, i use the same method as Greg. set corner post and pull bottom wire. that also lets you know where high and low spots are. pick up a galliger(spelling) electric fence booklet from a farm supplier. they are one of the best free fencing manuals i've seen. don't skimp on the corner post or bracing. even if i were running barbed wire, i would put in corners as if for high tensile fence. if you are using auger type hole digger, pull and stake the wire so it doesn't get tangled in wire. i mark post spots with survey tape so i can see it from the tractor seat. i also wait till fall and winter for fencing. less growth and softer ground. have fun

You live someplace different than me. In winter there is 4' of frost under a couple feet of snow. In fall it tends to be real dry & hard.

Yeah, i seen movies like that. i'm in virginia, last good snow we had was in 1965 or so (about 2 feet) . we're getting the first rain we've had in two months tonight. for the past 5 or so years spring and summer have been verrrrry dry. if we had the kinda snow you talking about around here people would die from it.

For very long sections we would set a post every some many feet and then eyeball it. When we got it straight we would run a string line about 2 feet off the ground. The string worked well for us and we used it all the time the only problem we had was on windy days and when we didn't have enough of string.

Hi Doug: We stretch the bottom wire between the corner posts and use it a the guide line when driving or setting the posts.
