OT- 96 Dodge brake line

My 1996 Dodge has developed a leaking brake line, it runs on the inside of the frame and the leak is next to the gas tank. Can I undo the line at each end somewhere and remove it or do I need to remove the gas tank? I really havent looked at it, I dread the thought of starting, but I will need the truck soon, and brakes would be nice.

I recently had a brakeline failure on my '96 F- 250 4x4. Mine too,failed in the area behind the fueltank.There is,apparently,more room on my Ford as I was,with a bit of knuckle scraping and cussing, able to unclip and remove the rusted out piece of line.This is my plow and wood hauler so I anticipate keeping it for awhile.So to the point of my diatribe....there is a company,FEDHILL, in MA that has a nickle alloy brake line.I have used it and am pleased with the results.The line doesn't rust,and is easier to route in tight areas.I found this company when I was looking for stainless steel lines,which I have been told are hard to flare and form.

I put new lines on my 95 about a year ago. I suppose you could do it with the tank in place if you left the old line there and ran the new one through differently. Sure is a lot easier with the tank out of the way though. I have had my tank in and out so many times I have it down pat. Really not that bad of a job.

Yea got the same problem with my 95 as i need to replace the line all the way and the bad part is that i just had the fuel tank down for the fuel line . Well at least i am getting good at droppen the tank . even still have the pump set up to drain the tank . Last time it was full . Also ya might take a long hard look at ALL the lines as when one goes the rest are getting real close. When i get to mine i am going to do all of them one shot deal even have the bender to make the tight bends , that littel darling set me back a buck and a quater.

Or you can just leave the old line in there cut it off and just shove a new one in along side there and hook it up.

I couple of the web-sites I frequent about trucks the other people think it is easier to move the bed over or back than drop the tank. I have never tried this myself but next time I need to get to the top of a tank I am going to look at it real seriously. HTH
