circular saw question

Here"s something I have always wondered about circular saws:
Why do direct-drive (cheaper) saws have the blade on the right and the motor on the left, while worm-drive (good) saws have the blade on the left and the motor on the right?
I"m left-handed, so the direct-drive saw is better for me so that I can hold the saw in my left hand and see where I"m cutting. I want to buy a new saw, and want to buy a good worm-drive one, but I won"t be able to see where I"m cutting if I hold it in my left hand. Whyizzit?

Porter Cable has a "Worm Drive Saw" available with Blade on either side to suit your preference. I am right Handed so I have the one with the Blade on the right side.

"Cheap saws" are available in right handed (blade on right) and left handed (blade on left); or at least Porter Cable makes left handed saws.

I would guess it is the same for worm drive, though I've never shopped for one.

BTW, you are using your saw backwards. I see advantages since you can see better, BUT - I have one of each, when I found the left-handed saw at a yard sale I was excited for exactly the reason you say you like right handed saws.

However, when I started using the left handed saw, I found quickly that my "holding hand" (in my case my left) and my body in general were a bit too close to the blade for comfort.

Now I mainly use it for when I need to cut close to something on that side, or if it happens to be closer than my right hander.

T'ain't so. Porter Cable Mag saw models are right and left hand.
