Just bought a non-running Vermeer 186 Stump grinder, and wanted to know what the max no load speed of the cutterwheel is? I plan on cutting the thing in half, and mounting on a universal skidsteer mount. I need to know the speed to figure out how to size the hydraulic motor that I will neeed.

Thanks, all, I went to Vermeer lot yesterday, and they let me put a tach on one of their new units that had a 16" wheel, like mine. It runs about 1300 rpm.

A lot depends on the diameter of the cutting wheel. Mine is a 26 inch wheel that runs at 800 RPM, about 5400 FPM at the cutting teeth.

Call vermeer factory at 1-800-247-2347 and they can tell you. Also will send repair manual free. I had one of these once and found it to be kind of useless. Sounds like it will work the way you want to hitch up. Good Luck
