I have the above mentioned generator that fouls the first stage regulator about every 50 hours. It draws from a liquid tap, through an inline trash filter, through a heat exchanger into a first stage regulator, a drain trap at the outlet of this first stage regulator, into a second stage regulator, and into the 'carb'. The first stage regulator fouls with an oily residue and shuts down the engine. The drain trap at the bottom outlet of the first stage regulator is a factory modification. Problem with fouling still exists. Tank has been pulled and cleaned. Anyone been through this type problem? Any recomendations? My next step is to put a drain trap between the heat exchanger and the first stage regulator. Am I on the 'right track' or do you have any suggestions. TIA, ray

The liquid converter is over heating and "cracking" out the ethyl mercaptan (odorant)that is added to the propane to detect leaks. If the converter is water heated, a device called a Thermstat can be installed in the water line to keep the converter cooler. If not, reducing the water line size can help as well.

I had the same problem with my RV, oil would get in the line and cause the flame on the stove to go up and down, the repair guy told me to change my suppler, I did and have had no more trouble. There is a difference in LP gas from different dealers.
