pretty sure mmo is made from oil of wintergreen. good fuel additive, crankcase and rear end. i add it to the fuel in my old tractors, keeps the carbs clean.

Marvel Mystery Oil is top cylinder lubrication.

European cars from decades ago always said to use it in there cars. I had a Stag and an E-Type and MB. (Think autobahn). They wanted you to back of on the throttle after 20 minutes or so of wide open top speed.

These cars had solid lifters and overhead cams driven by chains. They tended to have noisy drivetrains that sound all worn out. Put the MMO in the gas and oil and they sounded like new.

I've used it before for sticking valves and stuck rings on old tractors. Always helps, has never hurt anything.

Marvel Mystery Oil is not the same as trans fluid,my old TLB wouldn"t move for 20 to 30 minutes when first started cold,I put a quart of MMO in the trans, now it goes as soon as you start it up,also use it in my AC 7060,runs like new!!Bob.

I've used mmo for more years than I care to rember and it is very good on a lot of things, but on these newer rigs with a cat. converter do not over do it, it can plug them up on an older rig.

I have seen it used and I used it also in air tools. Pour the oil into a little dropper bottle
and then drop by drop into the connector on the air tool. Run the tool for a few seconds and then go to work.

Had a really bad knock in my 4 cyl rice burner. My neighbor came over a put a generous amount in the oil. The knock stopped and never came back. Read the can and it says nothing on how to use it. If you ask ten people you will get ten different replies on how to use it. Never sell a used car without about a quart of it in the oil. Yes, I got over the rice burner vehicles years ago.

I use it in my tractor (Ford gasser) and all my small engines. I believe it reduces valve sticking, particularly for engines that that are infrequently used.

The smell is wintergreen oil, which a lot of folks swear by as a penetrating oil.

Old is rite! Re: Marvel Mystery Oil in reply to baler46, 03-31-2007 18:56:54
But if you really have sticky valves use the Mobil Motor Oil with graphite. This is no MYSTERY oil but sure works magic on sticky valves! ;))

I've heard the thing about tranny fluid, but MMO will help with tranny problems too. If it were the same thing, that shouldn't happen. Father had an old Dodge van, musta had a leak. Got low on fluid it wouldn't shift out of 1st. Filled it back up, and it still wouldn't shift. Around 1/2 hour driving carefull to get it to shift, still no go. Addedd a quart of MMO an within 5 min the tranny was running like new. This is no fish story. I don't know what is in the stuff, but I've been useing it ever since. Farmall Super H, Super A get a few oz. every 5 gal of fuel. Both are original engine, carb. No smoking or fouling. Never a valve, carb, ring, bearing problem since new in 1953, 1951. Could be luck, but that is a whole lotta luck, and I don't get much of it around here. Mike

For the cost of a quart of it, it can't hurt. I buy it by the gallon, and all of my "home gas" for tractors, chainsaws, and any other of the couple dozen small engines I have gets MMO in it. Helps immensely to keep carbs from getting gummed up, and seems to help dissolve carbon deposits as well. Borrowed a gas-engine pump to pump my basement this week. It would only run on half-choke and would only start cold if you pulled the plug and squirted gas down the hole. Three tanks full of MMO-treated gas and it starts on its own and runs with the choke off just fine.

It works ok but for less then half the money you can use tranny fluid and do the same thing.

Dexron, just read the MMO can and then remember what it said and do the same with the tranny fluid. MMO is very close to being the same thing but smells better. LOL
