Sounds like the old compressor used a 120V control circuit similar to a clothes dryer. The new compressor either does not have an electrical control circuit. Or the control circuit is 240V. What HP and what kind of a motor starter?

Sounds like old one is for 220v, new one for 110v.
suggest you take old one in and get exact match, return new one for refund.

More information is needed. Voltage and amperes on the new unit? Wire gauge for the existing wiring? The fact that you did not already recognize the need for this information really concerns me with regard to do-it-yourself wiring. Electricity is one of the most potentially dangerous things that we deliberately put in our buildings and residences. Errors can be deadly.

There should be a name plate on the motor that will give you the voltage and amperage of the motor. Get back to us with that and mabe we can be of better help.
