I am going to be putting up a Morton building in the next few months and was thinking about going with an attic style truss. My building will be 30x70x12 so in the attic I will have an area 10 ft wide by 70 ft long with decent head room. Basically the area of a 10x70 mobile home. Morton says that the attic will support 60lb per square foot. This seems like a cheap way to add a second story. Would maybe make an apartment or something in the future or just storage. Any experience with these trusses anyone would like to share?

Well I am starting to rethink the attic truss thing. Thanks for all the comments!

If you pencil up the higher cost of the trusses, plus the cost of flooring it & walls to keep it clean.....

You might be able to make a 10' wider building to begin with?

I think that the attic truss cord must be a minimum of 2X8 16" OC to hold any real weight, or a 2X 12 for a wood shop, look it up at a lumber yard.

Morton is "Saying" The Bottom Chord of the Truss will support"??" but will Morton Warrant your Structure if you use the Bottom Chords as a base for Attic Storage? My experience as a former "Astro" Building Dealer/Builder is the Truss is part of the Structure Framing and any use of the Bottom Chord for Storage,Insulation/Ceiling Installation,Utility Carriage etc. with out "Engineering" approval will void any Warranty implied or other wise.If Warranty or Snow Load is of no concern do as you wish. This My opinion to give you a heads up on Truss integrity.

How much extra money $ verses just going longer for more space that you won't have to be going up and down stairs for ? Every year that goes by I hate stairs more and more.

I built an attached garage for a lady a few years ago and we used those trusses. they are a great way to get the added space. she like the area so well that we added a walk up stair case so it could be used fr living area but the main use was for storage.we were dealing with a 32' truss and set them with 4 people.
