Does anyone have any feedback on portable bandsaws? I've kicked around the idea of buying a stationary one for quite some time, but ran across the portable ones - seemed like it might be a handy tool. It's not that I need it to cut a lot of metal away from the shop, but it's nice to know that I could.

I have a Milwaukee brand that I use all the time. It is good for coping cuts and cutting into long pieces of metal (like pipe) that may not fit in a garage or shop very easily to cut on a stationary saw. With a fine tooth blade it works good on thin materials like guttering. A stationary saw can not be beat for straight precise cuts, but with some practice a portable can cut straight enough for most fitups for welding. Most are limited to around 4 or 5 inch width stock. If you buy one make sure it is variable speed and the blades are carried and in stock.

I have had a porter cable portaband saw since 1977. It is worth its weight in gold. good precise cuts, no sharp burrs like with a chop saw.
