Well, looks like I'm going to have to break down and buy a 1" impact wrench. Need it to occasionally break track bolts on bulldozer or remove 2.5" nut holding steering clutch pack together etc.

Looking in Northern tools. Big price difference between their brand and Ingersol Rand. What should I really be looking at...torque, speed, BPM etc. Again, real occassional use.

My compressor will easily run anyone listed, so that's not a concern.

Your input is appreciated.

Look at the torque ratings, I have an IR 2141 3/4" gun that's rated at 1,200 ft/lbs, to get a higher torque than that even in a 1" drive gun was going to double the price and the cheaper 1" guns were about the same torque. Since we already have the 3/4" drive socket set I chose to buy the best 3/4" gun I could rather than buy a cheaper 1" gun and a set of sockets to use with it. I'm running a 1/2" hose to my 3/4" gun at 175 psi and wouldn't want anything less on it.

Have you considered a manual Swench Impact wrench? No air needed, the 1 inch model goes up to 2,000 ft/lbs.. Too expensive to buy a new one, but nice used ones sell on Ebay for a few hundred dollars...

We have the northern tools one at work.. it's a real beast. I've onle seen a few nuts it wouldn't remove or twist off.

I see harbor freight has them now too.. I'm almost tempted... I knida like the idea of an airgun that handles like a chainsaw...

You also need to run the very large dia. air hose to them for enough volume.

For occasional use Torque is the number you are looking for.

Years back I bought a 3/4 IR (from Harbor Freight) that comes close to the lighter 1" stuff. works good for what I use it for. Mostly "budd" rims. Lot easier to handle than the 1" two handers.

i'd go with the ingersol. i have a 3/4 drive northern not worth a dip. my 1/2 drive snap on walks all over it. i use the northern one for a door stop.
