Guys, need some help, have a backhoe on my 4410 JD. The pin that the bucket pivots on is set up in the bushing. The grease zerk fell out and was out for about a month before we put a new one in. This hoe only gets used about 4 or 5 times a year so it must have got some sand or moisture in the bushing with the zerk out and is now froze solid. The bucket still moves but it is turning on the pin, which it is not meant to do. I am not able to force grease in the bushing with a gun but have heard people tell of a thing that you put on a fitting and then hit it with a hammer and it shoots grease in at like a zillion PSI. This is the only thing I can think of to use to get some lube into the bushing, and then I hope once it gets a little lube, I will be able to slowly rock the bucket to get everything loosened up and suable again. But i don't know where to find such a grease injector. Any ideas or suggestions to get this pin free?

I've got one in my box at work and one in my service truck..I use them a lot..Very seldom do I run across a straight fitting that won't take the oil I pull into it...Wear glasses and give 'er H*ll..I usually try to use hydraulic oil in them..They have a tendency to break off angle fittings..Northern has 'em..I'm pretty sure NAPA has 'em..

Yeah, get the pin out and take the zerk out and clean it all out and start over. One pivot on my hoe stops taking grease at least once a year.

I have not had much luck with these things. I find it more effective to put a pipe nipple into the fitting hole, fill with Kroil, and let gravity and kroil do the work. just fill the pipe nipple with kroil each time you work the machine, or walk by, and cap the nipple. Once you see kroil dripping out, then take a porta power, and pump hydraulic fluid into the pipe nipple. When hyd fluid moves through easy, it's time to remove pipe nipple and grease normally. Sometimes this fix takes a month or two to work, and sometimes the fitting is pointing up, and you can't use it, but generally it works.

HI.i HAD ONE A LONG TIME AGO. iT LOOKED LIKE A HEAVY DUTY HYPODERMIC NEEDLE. i BELEIVE IT WAS MADE BY kd TOOLS. hIT IT WITH A GOOD HAMMER AND IT MIGHT THROW THE HAMMER BACK OVER YOUR SHOULDER. sOMETIMES THE BUSHING TURNS IN THE HOLE AND YOU WON'T EVER GET GREASE IN THAT PIN.

Since the grease fitting hole has been open, working in the dirt, the only way to fix it is to take it apart and clean it out. Forcing in grease will push sand directly into the bushing and eat it up in no time. Cheaper to fix it right. Tom

Have you tried heating the area with your fire wrench? Often a bit of gentle heat will allow grease to again flow...partly due to expansion and partly because it burns out some of the crud.

I thought those things were a good idea too. Bought one, tried it. Didn't work, sent it back.

Of course, your mileage may vary.
