Anyone got a lead on used trailer sales or know of a fixer upper?

Been window shopping for 3+ yrs. and a 6x12 runs $2k which is to much $$ for small rural BSA Troop. Our fund raisers pay for summer camp.

Been using my tractor hauler trailers with tarps but getting real tired of that. Looking for something like 6x12, 7x14 or 16' long.

Thx in advance.

Hi ShepFL
Put an add in the paper looking for someone to donate a used trailer to the troop and deduct from their taxes. My wife used to be into Craft's. We were going to trade a good single axel like in your picture for a new tandem 14' after dealing for a new trailer I found It was as good of a deal to donate the smaller one to the Scouts, and buy the new one outright. All were very happy about the deal.
Being in business in a smaller town this is also good advertising.

Bob

Shep, you might go to the Airforce Base at De Funiak(spelling) Springs,FL and see if they would have one they could donate to the BS. Military is always donating equipment to organization like BS,GS.

Holy snot! What the heck do Boy Scouts need them big danged things for, what'er you takin with you?
When I was in we had a badly designed hard to pull 8x8' that we quit using. One dad with a pickup truck and topper or Suburban or other SUV and we were all set. We cooked dinners in dutch ovens over fire, breakfast we had a 2 burner Coleman for, lunch was sandwiches. We slept in tents on the ground with eggcrate mattresses.

Although I've since discovered the self inflating bedroll... They don't look like much, only about 3/4" thick but DANG they are comfortable. I sleep as good on that in the field as I do at home in bed. Small too, easier to pack than the old eggcrate, more expensive though.

Well after I went to Wood Badge my troop grew to 10 and we were ok. Then this yr. I was on staff and the troop has grown to 21 youth.

We have 3 canoes, many tents, 2 dining flys, patrol boxes etc. to transport. I am tired of loosing my garage and thinking I could use an enclosed trailer to store the troop gear and then just chuck in the personal scout gear.

Still doing dutch oven cooking. . .
and being a boy all over again :)

Check E-Bay, I have seen some pretty good deals on there. Also you might consider just buying a used horse trailer that needs a floor. I know a guy that converted a horse trailer for his construction business and it worked real well.

What weight class are you looking to acquire? How many pounds of gear are you going to put in it? Up here in the Luxurious State of Michigan we have lots of snowmobilers with no snow to run their sleds on so some of those completely enclosed walk-in trailers that hold two and four snowmobiles are going pretty cheap. My son has one that he parks at a storage lot and uses it to store his pool table, extra furniture, bikes, mowers, spreaders, and miscellanous, various and sundry stuff that he doesn't need while living in an apartment. I think it is capable of 3000 lbs on a single axle. I always thought it would be good for a carpenter to haul around their equipment but there isn't much call for carpenters in Michigan anymore either.

What are you planning to use it for- rough shelter and lock up equipment? Or camping trailer with cooking gear and beds? check Tear Drop Trailer plans- make your own enclosed trailer with 4x8 plywood sheets and stock lumber 2x2,2x3,2x4, furring strips. Make slide in box for your tractor hauler trailer if rough shelter is what you can use. if trailer is flatbed could make a 8x12 or 8x16 by 4 high. Another cheap enclosed trailer project heard about at salvage yard- Dodge Caravan cut in front of door frame, toungue welded on, front cover from part of roof and odd sheet metal. Made for a craft fair vendor. Front end wrecks or front stripped shell going for scrap weight freindly price- cut and tongue weld, usable back door and left side sliding door, priced $300.00-$500.00. Be a good project for scout troop. RN

Common thing in Wi is pickup bed trailer with a topper- hinged front panel on topper replaces window for extra access to parts. I made one from Maxda pickup, brother liked to use it for portable tool box and seed corn in spring- weather tight mostly, towed easy, had a lock latch for padlock on tailgate. About $150.00 to make.
