How do you test a circuit in which the 20amp fuse blows intermittently? The vehicle a 92 Chevy Astro belongs to an elderly woman I volunteer to help with simple jobs. The fuse in question is for the" guages". I tested circuit for shorts with a short finder,nothing.I went to the library and printed a schematic on unit from ALLDATA. Tested all components on circuit and inspected grounds.Did not find anything. Lady came and got car to make it to church and fuse blew on way to church.The only accessory she was running at the time was the radio. I have replaced fuse with a circuit breaker that will reset itself of the same amperage.This allows her to at least run her errands. More then anything I want her to be safe

Thanks to all how replied.Currently breaker is holding and lady is working out details to leave vehicle with me for a few days to investigate all suggestions.

cat//If this van has lighted mirror on visor disconect wire had problem on 93 sub. would go to work fine blow fuse on way home. Sun in eyes on way home and would put viser down.

I don't have an astro.. however,on many vehicles, the fuse or the dash also feeds the redio and the CIG lighter.

My moms new lincoln aviator kept blowing fuses in this manner.. I found a %$## paperclip ratteling around in the open cig lighter recep...

Suggest you check that, and if possible pull dash to lokk up under it for a chaffed wire..

My BIL had a fuse blowing problem on an Astro van and it was a tough one to find. We finally found that a wire was shorted to ground right where it went into the radio. Finding that problem caused him so much grief that he sold the vehicle right after we found the problem.

I just retired a '92 Atro with 435,000 miles on it, and still running strong. A few years ago, it had a problem blowing a fuse intermittently. The problem was that the wiring harness that goes across the top of the passenger's side valve cover had rubbed a little bit of the insulation through, causing a short to ground. I taped the bare wires and split a short piece of heater hose to slide over the whole harness to prevent further problems. You have to take the engine cover off to get to that harness, but I bet you'll find your problem there. Good Luck and God Bless, Tommy

I look and see an O2 sensor heater. That is where I would look.
The breaker was put in so she can drive it. Why? Does the gauge fuse control something that makes the vehicle not run?
I would not put faith on the breaker always working. Its good that you are worried about the safety factor.
I do not know any tricks for finding intermitant overloads. Just thought I would post about the heater for the O2
