Air compressor tubing

I bent/broke the steel tubing on my air compressor. I thought of replacing it with copper tubing but a quick check told me it was not nearly strong enough. I could get new tubes made of steel with flare fittings like the original, but I was wondering if there was any reason not to use high-pressure hydraulic hose instead. Has anyone ever tried this or know why it would or would not work?

I used a piece of line that is flexible for the head to tank line on ours and it is a braided hose for this use has a teflon or such handles the vibration and heat it's made for this job .could get one from an old semi also at the compressor head with the line from there to the frame for the final end .

The steel or copper tubing used on your compressor is also part of the air-cooling process. Yes, hydraulic hose will work, but will soon get brittle from the heat. I"ve used hydraulic hose and that"s been my experience. Use new tubing - you can buy cut and double-flared lenghs of steel at any good parts store, or you can buy copper and double flare it.

What kind of compressor is it? What is the tube carrying, oil or air? Is it directly on the compressor head? Unless you are over several hundred psi, copper is more than adequate. I have never seen a reciprocating compressor using steel lines to carry air, unless it was a very high pressure breathing air system. Copper is widely used up to 200 psi discharge pressure. Hydraulic lines will dry out and crack from the heat, especially if this is a big single-stage machine.

It will work provided the hose will withstand the heat.
