Just wondering if any one has thought of or has actualy done the following. I've been debating on spraying a rust converter into my compressor air tank (larger upright) and then following it up with a spray of some type of sealer. Good idea, bad idea? Will it work? No problem with the tank yet. I do have a unit on it that bleeds the tank a bit every time it cycles on and off.

Thanks
Bill

If tank is regularily drained it should last for yrs&yrs.Even a "new" tank is going to have some oxidation/mfg debris etc inside and once used for a bit, blowby oil and condensed moisture inside. The only feasible way "I" could see to properly coat inside would be an acid etch, neutralize, liquid sealer procedure like used for fuel tanks etc which involves pouring in the various compounds, sloshing and rolling the tank all ways to coat inside, the draining the excess, all of which sounds like a lotta work for a non guaranteed benefit. In MY opinion, keeping the tank dry and having it tested every 10yrs or so would be more feasible.I have one old army surplus portable here that was "certified" in 1943.It's a 1/2hp Devilbiss that I run at 125psi as a backup unit.Last home hydrotested@250psi a couple yrs back, but things were built better back then :)
