One more air compressor question

Last week, I posted about choosing between a Champion, Quincy or Eaton air compressor. Thanks for the great information. Now, however, I find I may have an opportunity to buy a used Ingersoll-Rand compressor. It is a model TS-5. I don't know anything about this compressor except that it is sized about right for what I need. It is 5HP with an 80 gallon tank. Can anyone give me the pros and cons of this particular compressor? Any idea on value?

There are two different Champions...one has better pump on it..have 2 here one 11hp gasoline engine running it and one 5hp electric.. they were bought in 1978... have done nothing to either one...the best ones have the cooling fins close together..

You pay for what you get. like mention Quincy, CAire. thos eare some quality machines. If not run regulary or weekend project you probably be fine. Dad had one last year and thats about all it lasted to. I run CAire units have two 80 gal tanks in tandem,nice. Wasn't planned that way but the first C aire unit let go last season after 16 years of use daily. No complaints so I hooked up the old tank to

Our family has run Quincy compressors for over 30 years in demanding year in year out applications. NOTHING comes close to the commercial grade Quincy. One example: My brother had a 5hp Quincy powering his auto body/mechanic shop. At times he did not have enough air, so he bought a new cast iron, two cylinder (two stage) twin Ing. Rand to run beside the Quincy as a backup. While it looked like a pretty impressive unit, the IR didn't hold a candle to the Quincy in ANY way--performance, reliability, etc., even though it probably got 1/4th the use. I have an old worn out two stage Quincy in my home shop. That thing just lopes along slow (rpm), cool, and steady day after day. I think it will last forever. EXCELLENT machines. Parts readily available for 30-40 year old machines. I'll stop now! Glenn F.

Northern Tools sells new I-R compressors. Take a look at their website to see what a new one sells for....then offer about HALF for the used one. I-R's are good compressors IF You get the right one. Their T-30 pump I think is their better grade.
