OT: Jetting a cook stove for Propane

My wife just bought a gas cook stove for the new house. We will be burning propane. Do cook stove typically come with propane jets or do you have to order those seperately? Thanks.

Problem solved. GE says they ship the cooktop with jets for Nat Gas and LP. Thanks all for your advice.

Kent// The last sears i worked on called for fliping a part in regulator and adjusting the spud in to stop. The spud is the brass tip where flame comes use out use 1/2 inch wrench.One on each burner also in oven.I was in a fishing camp in alaska when i ran in to that problem.Guy had bought two stoves dident know what a spud was And flame dose realy get high when set for natural gas.This was three years ago.

The last gas stove we purchased was from Sears. It came with jets to change if you were burning propane and full instructions. Real easy. Hope your wife bought one that can be converted. If not, take it back, get a refund, and when she goes shopping for another, be sure it can be converted to either propane or natural gas.

Thanks, gentlemen. I appreciate the advice. Stove hasn't been delivered yet, so I will check the mfr web site and see what I can find out. Shoulda thought of that first, I guess. Getting old...

Around here our's came set for natural gas. Had to get a propane jet conversion kit. Kit came with jets and detailed instructions. Tom

If it is new, I would suggest reading the manual. If that doesn't tell you what you want to know, go to a professional who knows what they are doing.

A buddy of mine hooked up a stove that was set up for natural gas, to propane. When he turned on a burner, he had flames almost to the ceiling. No real damage done, but it sure scared him! Fixing the problem involved changing some jets and it worked fine with propane after that. Good luck!

That depends entirely upon the stove.

Some have a natural gas/propane gas switch on them. Others have parts which get exchanged. The one we put in last summer, a DCS, CAN'T be converted from natural gas to propane or vice versa. Whatever comes from the factory is what you get, so everyone must take great care in the ordering process.

Good luck with the installation. Our gas guy had to drill through 51" of rock foundation to get the line into the basement.

We got a new one last year and it is adjustable to ether gas. No jet change just a screwdriver if I remember right. Check the book that came with it or the internet site.

Some years back, the propane regulator on my 1978 motor-home went bad. I looked at it, and it looked the same as the one on our current hot water tank (Natural gas). I asked a friend about it, and he said i could use the nat.gas type, just had to adjust the screw under the little plug. so, i installed the regulator, adjusted the jet and flame, and its been working ever since. Although, i was told by a guy who knows everything, that it wouldn't work! That was 10 years ago!
