A friend of mine has a 1996 Chevy Tahoe that he changed the air conditioning compressor because someone over filled the system and it blew out the seals. He installed a new compressor and then took it to a shop where they installed a new drier, evacuated it and refilled with 134. Now it will only cool at a very borderline rate. The guy at the shop said that the pressures are OK but it just doesn't cool properly. Does anybody have any ideas on this problem?

Did you change from R12? If so your cooling will be less effective. Assuming shop did job correctly, mayb e controls are letting heat into the a/c, or airflow door is stuck. Vacuum problems maybe. Is clutch staying on almost continously, it should be if charge is right.

Sounds like one of two conditions. (A) The system charges is incorrect (High or Low), or (B) there is a refrigerant restriction. Either way, this should go back to the shop where the original work was done. Checking the system superheat should reveal the problem. That is, if the tech is competent.
