Loose Flywheel

I have 730 diesel with a Tennessee flywheel and I
am having trouble keeping it tight. I was wondering if there is something I could use to
help keep it tight.

1chain the crankshaft to the left good and tight 2put the collet on a smoth clean crankshaft with a feeler gage of proper endplay thickness behind the collet and tap the collet snug.I brazed the feeler gages to a long peice of tin that exstended beyound the flywheel.3Install flywheel on collet and tighten nut tight.4I used a 40lb broken axle shaft to strike the flywheel on the webs.5while doing this I have a wrench that I made to fit the nut on collet.I made two of these wrenches.One the handle is mounted on the flat of "socket" and the other is welded to the corner of the "socket".I have a 5 ft handle on both and either I or one of my boys stand on the handle while the other is striking the flywheel.Usally the wrench just falls tight every time the flywheel is struck.5repeat 40 times.I have installed several of these flywheel and this is how I do it.I put the tractor in 6th gear and make sure the cutch is adj GOOD AND TTIIGGHHTT!!!!.I have better results with the new cast flywheels than the remade JDs

Did you clean the splines and make them free from burrs ? Do not lube the splines,I do put some on the tapered part of the collet. Make sure you get the end play set to .005"-.010" You need at least a 4 foot pipe wrench and a sledge hammer and a crow bar. You have someone hold the crowbar into the ring gear teeth against something solid. I think there is a casting that sticks out you can rest against,this holds it still while tightening the large nut. Once as tight as you can turn it by hand with the 4' wrench take the sledge and hit the heavy web off the center of the fylwheel ONLY ONE HIT kinda hard then tighten the nut some more,repeat the hit once and tighten patteren until it doesn't draw up any more. Then it should stay. After a few hours of run time recheck it. Once everything is seated in it should stay put.

I'm guessing it is a taperlock design flywheel made in TN by Allen Machine Works.
