Just bought used 2003 Mercury Sable and trying to reset the keyless entry keypad. The manual references a pin # in the front of the manual but that is missing.

Anybody know how to reset it? Thanks

You just need to know where to look!. On my 1996 Exporer the code is inside the rear pannel when you open the tail gate. There is a little metal box about 5x6x2 and there is a big white sticker on it with the numbers. That is the factory "master". The code you put in is the optional code. The master will never change. A lot of good local fixit places know where to look on their computers to find a locator chart or you can go to Ford's web site and hunt a round. Jeffcat

The only place I have seen the code was on a credit card size plastic card that was in the manual. The original owner probably kept the card or it has been lost. The only way I know to read it is at a dealer with the computer. Or maybe some of the savy car thiefs have figured out how to find the code which is why I doubt that it appears on any label on the car as every garage and parking lot attendant could steal the codes for the theives.

Thanks guys I will look for the sticker in the trunk, on the fuse panel and the module. I will stay away from the dealer like the plauge. I can see $$$ as they "hook" it up to the computer.

I bought a 2002 Ford Explorer recently and the manual says the code is on a sticker on the keyless entry computer (as in earlier models) but doesn't say where to find it. The dealer said the only way to get the code is with their diagnostic equipment. Since I bought it from them they did it at no cost. I wasn't in the garage at the time so I don't know if they really did it with diagnostics or just knew where to look!

On the back of the fuse block, under the dash on the driver's side. There is a small white plastic tab that sticks out about 1/4 inch. On that tab is a printed 5 digit code which is the factory preset for that car. It is facing backwards, so be sure you read it that way. Just punch in that 5 digit code on the keypad and the door will open.

Don't know for sure (I retired 10 years ago) but check on the trunk hinge. That's where they used to be.

Yes, that is an option. Last resort as I hate the Ford dealership around here.
