Really impressed with my 6.5 gas engine. You can't really tell me it's Chinese anyway as it has all Honda parts and casting which explains the quality. Out of the box I put gas and started on third crank.

The operator manual sort of lacks basic English skills in spelling, but it's understandable. Haven't needed any parts yet so I can't verify availability of parts. I had it working hard on a mechanical log splitter for the past year and it hasn't had any holidays.

I use synthetic and change the oil once every 3 weeks maybe that explains the zero breakdown.

I'd buy another anyday.

We work on a lot of Chinese generators and part are extremely slow to get if they are not in the USA. Waited 6 weeks for a cylinder head, now had waited almost 2 weeks for a PTO cover on a Jen Fing enigne. Right now, I would not buy a chinese engine, the quality is not real good, and parts supply is marginal at best.

Robin/Subaru are Japanes I think.

China motors are Honda clones, so work about as well, but the quality of materials is sub standard. ie:easier to strip a bolt.

but at that price, you just buy 2 or 3 and dont worry about parts, just swap the complete motor, faster than trying ot fix it.

Then maybe it's time American industry and, more to the point, UNIONS wake up and make a high quality product at a competitive price. Americans are tired of putting up with low quality, overpriced products with a poor warranty. Guns, engines, cars, tools- it's all the same problem. WAKE UP AMERICAN INDUSTRY!!!

Hi Bret,

Union membership stands at about 8% today, down from a high of around 33% which was 30 or 40 years ago. Remember Ronald Reagan firing the air traffic controllers? During that same period both parties have engaged in a frenzy of deregulation and tariff abatement. Remember what Ross Perot said would happen if we signed NAFTA? Remember that Bill Clinton did anyway? Same thing with the WTO.

Do you really blame the unions for the fact that the doors are wide open to the importation of products that can be produced in Asia for a fraction of what we can produce them for here? We could be more competitive by paying workers less than a living wage, reversing child labor laws, abolishing workplace safety standards, dumping toxic wastes into rivers, lakes, the sky, etc. It would be sort of like the workers' paradise that existed when McKinley was president. Actually, we're on our way.

All the best, Stan

It was during the 70's that Americans started buying foreign made cars at a much higher rate. They were tired of poor quality junk being made here. The unions thought they could choke the automakers to death with ridiculous wages and benefits while still producing low quality automobiles.

Protectionism didn't work for them and they were forced to deal with competition.

They dug their own grave. Bye bye unions.

That kink of thinking is what puts Americans out of work. You take such joy in squeezing those nickels now, and then you will cry when someone in your family loses their job. Tom

I've got a buddy who imports ATVs into Egypt of all places, they build their own machines by taking chinese frames and modifying them to Honda engines because the chinese engines don't last. Then they put the chinese engine into the honda frame and reimport them back to china and sell them.

Just curious if the Chinese engines you are talking about are the Subaru/Robin ones? I run a landscape company and have gotten completely away from Briggs. Have had great luck with the Hondas and Subaru on our lot blowers and vacs.

Subaru/Robin is built by the Fuji Heavy industries group of Japan.

As far as I know, I have a Ruihong Entr. engine out of Taiwan, the other make is Lifan. Lifan is a big chinese engine maker who even has an outlet in Japan and I think also Korea. They claim to have bought some Patent rights from Honda and have a Honda engineer working in their factory in China. Lifan I think is the more established with parts availability and have a bigger name in North America. Someone said they make cars or car parts too, but can't verify that.

What got me buying from them is they're cheap and worth the test. If I lose it, it won't break my wallet. If it breaks down I'll just wait for the part and get a used Briggs/Tecumshe.

Another is the farmers in China are dirt poor, and the biggest implement one could hope to buy is a Gravely/Troy Bilt 2 wheeler type machine that doubles as a pickup truck. It can rototill and cultivate, and it has a hitch ball attachment where they hook up a wagon for carrying hay and such. You can see them on city streets carrying market vegetables, or with the guy riding a huge hay stack and a long pole attached to the 2 wheels up front and below for steering, and a cable for the throttle. I figure we may be expert in tractors, but they must know their small engines.

I bought one of the 1200 watt Chinese generators at the Homier tool sale a few years ago.. After fooling with it for hours, I finally got it to run a few minutes... Then it quit, I was too disgusted to even fool with it anymore..

Don"t have any of the Chinese clones, but have 4 Hondas and you get what you pay for in the quality of the Hondas.

It's always nice to support the Communist Chinese.

I feel we will regret it one day, though!

There's a "TBA" sort of place not too far from me selling them at DARNED close to Honda prices, and they seem to "move" a few. SOMEONE is making some money there, I suspect!

I believe you are right Bob. Many of the tool shops and pattern makers are running out of work around here as the manufactures move operations to foreign countries where the price of labor, materials, and assembly is dirt cheap. Everyone thinks it won't affect them but eventually "What goes around comes around".

Selling out this country is getting more fashionable all the time.

And no, I wouldn't take one of these Chinese engines if they gave me one.

You are right on the selling out of our country both by the big shots and the consumers. I am afraid that in the not too distant future we will be in a world of hurt and we will be dictated to by the other countries.
