Is the Ingersoll Rand 2131 1/2" impact still being made. I see that they sell a 231. Is that totally different than the 2131?

The 231 is the best (consistantly) of the 1/2 inch air impacts. The MAC 234 is identical, made by IR,but has a larger exhaust port allowing more volume of air though producing more impact shortening the life of the impact hammer. They sell a hammer kit to fix you up.The MAC version Pressed steel housing is 120 degrees off as compared to the 231.The main body is also cast 120 degrees as compared to the IR231.(231-IR)

you can still get the 2131 at tooltopia.com. It has 600 ft lbs of torque. The 231 has 450 ft lbs. I prefer the 2135.

I'm not sure if the 2131 and 231 are the same, but a friend of mine works in the IR plant 3 miles from here assembling the 3/8", 1/2" and 3/4" anvils for these. From genuine Chinese parts.
Made in America baby!
