Just wondering if anyone can tell me about grades of some aluminum sheeting. I know it's .071 thickness about 15 guage. Has markings on it of ALCLAD - 7075 - T6, QQ-A-250/13, KAISER-T. Some other sheets are either aluminum or stainless marked DLA500-91D-0090-0074. Some numbers may just be inventory as I got these surplus. Thanks.

7075 is the alloy. For 7000 series, the primary alloy element is zinc. 7075 is about the toughest stuff you can get, and has OK corrosion resistance.

T6 is the temper; T6 indicates solution heat treated, artificially aged. 7075 T6 has a tensile strength of around 70,000 psi. Very tough stuff.

Alclad indicates that the sheet is coated on both sides with pure aluminum to improve its corrosion resistance.

The DLA number is the Defense Logistics Agency contract number that the aluminum was purchased under.

7075 T-6 Re: Aluminum sheeting grades ?? in reply to Glen in TX, 02-17-2007 09:29:41
7075 T-6= This is some hard tough stuff. Its strength is higher than some grades of steel. It corrodes easily and for the most part is unweldable. It does not bend well at all (cracks) and if bent straightening is impossible without cracking. It machines nice. Joining is by rivets or bolts. Any of the rest of the Al alloy, that has an "A" in the prefix of the numbers is in the annealed soft state.

Thank you! Yeah it came surplus from a AFB so aircraft grade looks like. Now what to use it for?

Works great for Re: 7075 T-6 Re: Aluminum sheeting in reply to Glen in TX, 02-17-2007 10:15:41
Works great for fixing cracks in your wing spars! ;))
Really anyplace that you need Al for reenforcement or can be bolted or riveted in a flat high strength requirement position. Makes Great washers, just cut them with a hole saw on a drill press!

BIG PS: Re: Works great for Re: 7075 T-6 Re: Alumi in reply to woodache, 02-17-2007 10:29:03
10 years ago that 7076 cost me $11 per lb. I had to buy the stuff for making machined Aircraft parts. I really doubt that it is any cheaper now! right? ;((

Yeah they show sheets I have would probably cost $300 per sheet now. Need to sell it and buy a new tractor? lol. It's going on shop door and wall since was only $10 a sheet or less.

Thanks a lot! That's exactly what I was looking for. I figured it was aircraft grade as came from a AFB surplus.
