Has any one used the Lincoln 275 tig welder and what do you think of it and what is the thickest aluminum you can weld without preheating or steel Im thinking about buying one but dont have the skills to really test the machine and the welding shop dont now how thick you can weld with it and the manufacture usually exaggerates thanks for the help

I've used one. It welds 1/8" aluminum just fine. I didn't have much of a need to tig weld thicker sections of aluminum, but if I did I used a spoolgun anyway. I did however weld stainless to black iron using tig and then filler and cover passes with 1/8" stainless rod. Does a nice job, for what I needed it for. Usually with thick sections of aluminum, it is more cost efficient, and faster, to use a spool gun.

If you mean when I used a foot feed?? Then the answer is Yes. There was alot more amperage left in the machine, for what I had it set at. We're talking 1/8" What are you looking at? I absolutely hated the old 275 model I was using..... ..... I was using the new 275 right when Lincoln first put it out, the 255 was the 275's predecessor..... ..(the 255 is still nicer, and more user friendly in my opinion). The reason being, for disliking the 275, you had no way of telling where your amperage setting was at unless you were welding. The gauges only lit up when the machine had actual welding being done. I hope Lincoln fired the genious who came up with that idear. Apparently now, 2 years later, the new model can be preset..... ..... .....basically, it lights up and displays the numbers all the time, not just 5 seconds after you are done welding. The display problem was my only complaint. I'm looking at getting the new 275 or the Miller Synchrowave 250. I'm a bigger fan of Blue...
