For all that love old tractors and wood working Don't buy them darn cabnit raised panel bits from the Cummins traveling tool shows they are plum JUNK and yea i know all to well only buy good stuff so most of this is my fault but since wood working is a past time for me i did not see that i needed to buy the upper end bits to make a few cabnit doors and play in my grouch cave on bad days . Now ya see them on E/Bay every day for anywhere from 29 bucks up into the 50-60 dollar range . well after tryen to figure out just why they would not make a cut that fit andthen putting the Mic's to the cutters and bearings it is no wonder as they are sofar off that there is noway that they will work. ANd callen Cummins tools was a waiste of a phone call as they got my money and plum don't care . Well The up and done ticked me off and that 69.95 that they got off of me is going to cost them more then sending me out a good set of bits that would work . So being that i am ticked off maybe a call to the DOT and telling them that Hey them Cummins tool trucks have bad tire on them and ya just may want to check them out when they are in the state and i am vary sure that it will cost them along with my big mouth tellen people that they do not stand behind what they sell will have affect . OK i am done.

many years ago toolsalesmen used to come to th farm maybe twice per year. salesman had some hacksaw blades that were gaurenteed for life. after pa got tired of listening to him finally said he would take one of them lifetime blades. salesman said wonderfull they come in 10 packs how many do you want? Pa said I'm only going to live one lifetime what will I do with the other 9 blades?

over ten years ago I bought an angle die grinder from Chuck Homier tools to use for buffing gaskets, the only thing I did was take the head apart and pack it full of grease, It is still running and I haven't used it nicely! I will agree alot of that stuff is junk and not cheap enough to justify buying vs. good stuff.

I bought a set of spade bits from one of those trucks and they turned out to be oversized. I used one of them to drill holes for dowelling and when I put the first dowel in I quickly realized I had been screwed. Then there's the cheap set of ball peen hammers I bought off of a table at the county fair, that were not hardened. The face of the hammers just kind of dented and belled out when I used them. I finally threw them out cause I got tired of listening to the ridicule from my neighbor. Jim

I've bought a few "cheapies" at HF. Never anything that would have to take some force or would be used regularly. Things like an extra tool bag. Most of my hand tools are Craftsman (Socket set, wrenches) are over 30 yrs old. Always buy quality.

My favorite piece of junk I bought was a drill bit set from Ames, many years ago.

Chucked one up, went to drill, and it immediately unwound and twisted up backwards before I stopped the drill.

The bits had all the strength of chewing gum. In hind sight, I kinda wish I kept them, just as conversation pieces.

They were here yesterday - I HAD to look but I didn"t see anything I wanted to waste the money on! A *few years ago* I got a fairly decent homeowners type 1/2" deep well impact socket set - they"ve held up pretty well - a lot better than I"d hoped for! A couple of years ago I tried a couple of their 12" "carbide tiped" saw blades. I know carbide come in different grades but I think standard HSS would have lasted longer.....kinda funky the way those blades "twisted" too - that"s scary! It cured me of buying their blades!
Seems like their quality gets worse as time goes by. HF *USED* to have some decent stuff, too - 15 years ago.....all they sell now is junk, too!

yeah Cummins is coming here this week. Same stuff as HF , just more expensive and harder to deal with on problems.

i feel yer pain. but sikkin the government on somebody is no answer. my cheap tool buyin experiences were my fault and mine alone. and it happened more than once is the bad part. the dot is probably busy enough pullin nazi tacktics on honest truckers anyway.
