When one happens to be without a torch for one reason or another, what is the best electrode to use for gouging or cutting if the need comes up ?

It is best to use an exothermic electrode designed for cutting, piercing, gouging chamfering etc. They may also be used to preheat prior to repair welding or for the purpose of bending metal. Several of the electrodes can be joined to make an extension if necessary. There are many other advantages as well.

ANY 60 OR 70 SERIES ROD WILL CUT IF YOU SET THE HEAT HIGH ENOUGH, JUST DON'T EXPECT A GOOD CUT FROM THEM.
