I posted a question about HF parts washers a couple days ago. The one I'm looking at is #7340. Anyone have experience with this model? It would be for occasional use in my home shop.

Thanks, Glenn F.

How about putting a couple bricks in the solvent to raise the level? I have one of the cheapo H.F. units and it has served me for 4 years. I do hate the price of the solvent however.

Here's my experience in reply to Glenn F., 02-10-2007 21:03:25
Bought a cheapo HF parts washer (like $60 for a 20 gallon model). When we got it home and put it together months later the pump was el junko. We use it just for soaking stuff in now. One day maybe I'll buy a good pump and put on it. Just something for you to consider. The other poster was right it took a lot of fluid to get it up to the level where the pump could work.

I looked at one, but I don't know if it was that part number. Had a cheap plastic pump-motor, much like the ones that are used in small water foutain displays. Motor-pump assembly just set on the bottom so solvent level would have to be high for it to work. Maybe needs 4-5 gallons to work. Instructions said NOT to use mineral sprits, kerosine or stoddard solvents.
I ended up getting an older parts washer at an auction. Motor is mounted higher up with the metal pump down in a pocket so it will work with only a gallon of solvent. Can use the lowest priced paint remover- mineral sprits as solvent.

Thanks for the good information. I'd love to have an old one, but I don't get around to auctions, etc.

Glenn

can you get an older USA made parts washer on Ebay?
My cost $35 at an auction and I would not trade it for a brand new one made in China.
