O/T oil gauge for GMC 4000

I've got a 1965 GMC 4000 grain truck. The original engine had been changed to a 366 V8. On the dash the oil warning light tends to flicker, but there is no indication of low oil pressure.

Here's the question: Does anyone know where to look on the engine, etc. for a place to install a dial oil pressure gauge which will give me the actual oil pressure?

Look behind the distributor. There should be a oil pressue sending unit on the block behind the intake manifold. One wire goes to it. Carefully unscrew it. The fitting is a 1/8" pipe fitting and it's only about 1/4" in diaameter. You can easily break it off in the block if you're not careful.

Personally, I would purchase a mechanical oil pressue gauge which should cost less than $20. I never did like idiot lights. You can plumb a tee fitting and have both the idiot light and the gauge. Then you'll always know what the pressure is.

Check around the block above oil filter area for a plug or sensor. You just might get lucky.

If it has an idiot light, it has to have a sending unit. Look for a single wire going to the block. The sender is most likely 1/8 inch pipe thread, and about 1 inch in diameter. Unscrew it. If oil drips out, that's what you're looking for. Get a brass T - male-female-female thread. Screw the male in where the sender was, screw the sender into the T, and the mechanical gauage tube fitting into the other female part of the T. By the way, the whole problem is most likely the sending unit.
