I finally bought a parts washer and was wondering what everyone was using for cleaning solution and how do you get rid of when it needs disposal.

Sometimes Kragen / Checkers / Autozone has used oil recycling tanks in their stores . Mix the solvent in with your used oil . They usually only take 5 gallons at a time , so take in a 5 every few days or hit several places .

I didnt tell you any of that , LOL

Why not use parts solvent? I just got some mineral spirits for something last week and it was close to $8.00/gal. I don't think the last parts solvent was near that much, but I may be wrong. It's been a while since I bought some.

The shops I worked at and in my own aways used kerosene.Cleans good and easy on hands.

When it"s dirty,strain out the dirt and dispose of just like used oil.~brad

I have used Castrol Super Clean and the Coastal version of Super Clean with reasonable results. It mixes with water, is environmentally friendly, and easily disposed.

I have a small parts washer and I like two gallons of odorless mineral spirits and one gallon of kerosene. Straight mineral spirits is good, a little rough on the hands, but the impurities will settle out of mineral spirits and you won't have to change it very often.

At a old hydraulic pump rebuild shop I worked at we had used mineral spirits. (worked well from what I recall) For disposal just burn it. Of course dont let the enviromental nazis see ya do it.
