This may not be the appopriate place to ask this but this was the closest i found. i have a fuel tank that my grandad bought new in the 70's or so when the fuel scare or whatever was going on. It has set in the pasture for years and has never had fuel in it. I am wanting to use it for diesel but i am scared that i will get rust in my tractors that may have formed in the tank. Will i be ok to use it if i put a filter on it. Another question is what kind of pump do i need to put on it? thanks.

I would do as the other fellow suggested first, tanks will rust and pit sitting epmty. If you find it is a good tank, you can use it, but you will need good filters for a while to not pickup rust. As for pump, get what you can afford, you can get a hand pump or electric. And let your fule settle after filling the tank, that way any sediments will settle before you start pulling fuel out of it. If you are using Bio, this can create a problem for you, it will clean any and all rust off the tank walls and deposit it in the bottom of your tank.

I had the same thing a few years back. I plumbed it up to my air compressor & put about 8 pounds pressure on it, then put soapy water on it only to find lots of leaks. I cut it in half & made 2 real nice trash burners out of it. Glad I didn't fill it with fuel first. Good Luck.
