Linde Welders

Still looking for a good welder cheap.

Anyone familiar with Linde welders. Have a lead on what looks like could be a nice 250 amp mig set up cheap.

From what I can tell they are a German company that produces industrial-commercial type machines. Their web site shows 4 dealers in the Boston area - all about 40 to 60 miles from me.

The in-laws used to manufacture farm sprayers in the 70"s and 80"s in their farm shop.Had 3 linde migs,still have 2 of em.I am not a expert welder myself,but when the youngbloods talked management into 3 new millers the lindes were pushed to back corner.Funny thing is whenever an old timer(no offense to anyone)walks in and sets up to weld,they walk by the new millers and dust off one of the "old"Lindes.That must mean something!

Hi Tim,

The cadillac of "shop" welding machines has always been Linde and P&H in any type of welding process as they always had superior arc stability but was at a very spendy cost.

I've never researched the back ground of Linde, the Union Carbide brand, so I can't tell you any thing there.

Got an older Linde 250amp TIG at work. Great machine. Would love to find one for the home shop.

Linde used to be a division of Union Carbide. Purox is another Union Carbide company took over by Esab. Very good torches. They made good welders and even invented TIG welding way back when. There name for it was Heli-Arc. It is still used. They are very good MIG welders as well. Most 3 phase Linde's for MIG have inductance control for fine tuning. Where I work we have an Esab inverter machine that works excellent and is a Linde design. Esab bought them out and a lot of the Esab machines are rebadged Linde. If it's a metal master 250 it's a good machine. Esab is the largest welding manufacturer in Europe and are pretty big here as well. If it works I'd buy it. Shouldn't be too hard to get parts for. Look for an Esab dealer. Hope this helps. Dave

Should add that Esab is swedish and one of the founders invented the covered electrode. Linde came out with some real high tech machines like the early plasma welders. They also made a lot of sub-arc equipment. Dave

The one we had at work a number of years ago was excellent quality with many nice features. It was an AC/DC power supply used almost exclusively for tig welding.
