Hi all,

I have an old Hunter ceiling fan that doesn't have a reversing switch. (How) can I add one?
Thanks,

Roger

Gentlemen,
Thanks for the feedback & suggestions.
The fan has a heavy cast housing with an oil bath motor. Fits real well in this 84 year old house, unlike a new one would. Maybe I'm old fashion, but I guess that's why I have an old tractor too.

"fanman",
I might have tried your suggestion, but you didn't specify what gage guy wire to use and I didn't feel qualified to size it myself.

I agree with four4speed, the motor would have to be wired to run in both directions. It would be cheaper to buy a fan already set up for both directions.

I am not sure how your fan motor is wired, but the manufacturer may not have wired it for the reversing switch. As many AC motors are wired for only one direction, the fan motor may be the same and reversing is not an option for that motor. Good Luck.

It may have reversable pitch blades. On an old Hunter fan I had, you just pushed the fan blade inward, toward the hub against spring pressure, then you could ratate the blade so that it would blow up instead of down. The motor always turned the same direction

Just put a tall pedestal mount on the floor and mount it upside down ?
