i would like to make a list of all the american made companies, alot of even the brand name companies are now made overseas. Also some companies make somethings in the USA and somethings overseas. I dont know of any off the top of my head but i will do some research. i think if we have a list to look of of we can reasure ourselves when buying these products, somethimes we dont like to spend the extra money but if it is for a good cause i will just have to. Its time we get rid of some of these chineses junkers.

a lot of companies "went overseas" because the executives weren't smart enough to figure out how to use the resources that they had here to make a profit.

we did do it to ourselves. just think if everyone bought american and only american product then there would be high demand and our jobs would go up and there would be no market here for the foreign crap but alot of people shop by prices or what they can afford and that is usually foreign made walmart is a prime example.

Union demands??
I disagree.
You know or at least should know that American workers produce more than any workers in the world. Have heard that that makes the cost of labor competitive with the cheap labor in China and elsewhere. When you have a cheap wrench that breaks when you put a little force on it, it doesn't break because it was made with cheap labor, it is because the material was no good. American could make tools just as junkie as those foreign ones and probably sell for less but they are too proud to do it. Cars for example, Used to they were much cheaper than American but they were smaller, lower quality and just plain not as good. Now their quality has come up to American but so has the price. Those foreign cars are about the same price as American when compared to equal cars. You find a low priced American car and compare the price to an equal foreign car and it will be about the same. I don't know where the problem is but it isn't Unions.
I will never forget an article I read about 35 years ago. There was a city that needed a fork lift and put out bids. The city bought one made in Japan and it was less than $10.00 cheaper than one made right in that city and there were workers laid off right then because of low sales.

i seem to remember that back in the 1950's and 1960's that even though american products were good, the best thing about them is that they were made in america by american workers. but, that's what the problem was. the unions demanded and got higher and higher wages and benefits that they were pricing american products out of the reach of american people. everyone wants cheap prices and good quality at the same time and that cannot and will not happen. either one or the other, but not both. i, for one, want quality and am willing to pay extra for it, but quality is getting very hard to find in anything now. planned oblescense is what is built into products so that they wear out just after the warranty has expired. it's what keeps the market going and growing. at one time, german made products were revered as being well made and precision, but sadly that is gone also now. welcome to the new global economy. it's here to stay.

Folks, I've read what seems like a couple of hundred of this "Buy American" threads. While I agree with the concept, I think it's time we realized that we are now in a Global Economy, and the probability of any individual product being 100% US made with US materials and components is diminishing daily. That's a fact, and we're going to have to live with it.

While I could write a half a page going into my theories on WHY this is so, I will limit it to one observation: We did it to ourselves, primarily by shopping for prices instead of quality.

Just my humble opinion...

If "We did it to ourselves", we did it by electing a buncha Crooks! MY 2 cents! Everything isn't the fault of the Common Man, Paulie!

Most products made in the USA are assembled from parts made in Mexico, China, etc, etc.

Old PA farm boy with a doctorate in engineering developed company called NUMERICS that makes traffic control technological products for the world. Every time your vehicle causes an electro-magnetic field with that pavement implant and it triggers the light to turn, that technology is Fayette County PA farm-based old USA at it"s finest.

Well, I guess that technology never got past the Mississipi River. Traffic lights where I live are the pits. You never know if the left turns goes first, all thru traffic goes first or what to expect. It seems to change hourly. I believe lights are set on timers: left turns don't let all the cars thru, thru traffic has to stop for non-existant cross traffic, etc. New apartments were built on both sides of a small road at a T intersection. They blocked the road off with a kid's park 100 feet in from the main road. Now a traffic light controls all 8 cars that can park on the short street. New lights pop up like weeds. I think every traffic engineering professor has to publish a textbook on his ideas on how to control vehicles. No left turn, no right turn, no U turn....arggggg!
