This old farm has a number of buildings that could use some painting.

Wife does ok with a roller, but it's long work.

We played with a little hand-held Wagner spray painter one year, it was ok, but....

What does a person look for in a sprayer?

Looking at putting down a primer, then follow probably with latex, tho oil isn't out of the question.

I see locally a Wagner setup for under $200, draws out of the can, has a longer tube & trigger.

I see other brands of similar at the box stores some distance away. Some are more, some are beefier, I donno what I'm looking at tho.....

What is good, what is bad, any ideas?

Another one. in reply to paul, 01-26-2007 09:07:34
Paul, a buddy bought one of these couple of years ago, I borrowed it to paint a house as I had my big one loaned out(out of area). This Wagner worked really well, sure impressed me for the cost. It is on sale for $99.00 at Heartland America (800) 229-2901 Item # WW22-20573

Paul I have a 1hp I think airless sprayer That I use on our out buildings among other things such as pumping fluid into tires. I pressure wash first to do prep, let dry good and go to painting. It is a contractor type on two wheels, may be worth renting one over a weekend to paint after prep. If you want I"ll snap a picture for ya.

Maybe I can help seeing that I repair these dang things for a living. The small wagner "Piston" pumps at the local box stores are pretty decent if you have a little to do. Other wise your local paint stores are selling 390 gracos and 440 titans for less than $700 and these should handle just what you want to do. Email me if you need more info and I will try to help.

The new wagner guns are a lot better than the old ones. Much better/larger spray pattern.
I had one of the early ones years ago, it finally gave up and I bougth a wide shooter one. WOW, if I had known how much better the new ones were I would have replaced the old one long before it quit.
The other option I see is one of the pressure pot type of painting setups.

It looks to me like the pressure pot deals don't like latex paint too well, or am I missing something? What kinda nozzle would work for building painting?

Thanks all, just trying to learn. :)

The one in the picture is the one I have minus one gun. For winter storage I run antifreeze thru it and put it away. Could not beat the price on mine , the wife got it at a moving sale.
