How can I tell if the dryer I have been given is set up for propane or natural gas.

I don't want a fire sale next week.

I assume you're on propane, since running a gas appliance on propane is a bigger problem than running a propane appliance on gas. (The former is going to run too hot, while the latter will run too cold.) I suggest you check the dryer model number and Btu rating, then call your propane supplier. I think they can tell you the proper size orifice for your dryer, then you can just pull out the burner and verify you have the right orifice. I imagine the appliance manufacturer can tell you this information as well.

If you can't get anyone to tell you the proper orifice size for your fuel, just order a conversion kit and be done with it. They're not that expensive.

If you have both orifices, the one with the bigger hole is for natural gas. It is the one which runs at a lower pressure. The parts for the gas not in use should be there in a little sack if memory is correct. Please double check what I say, it has been fifteen years since I have had anything to do with that stuff.

All gas dryers come from the Factory set up for NAT gas. "IF" a responsible person converted the dryer to LP, there should and normally be affixed to the Burner Assembly, a sticker stating so.
