I have an older Briggs and Stratton 5 hp. vertical shaft lawn mower engine. I am thinking about the possibliities for this engine, and one would be a pressure washer.
I was curious if anyone has built, or looked into the idea of building a pressure washer.
I haven"t looked at pumps or attachments, so I don"t know if this is even economically worthwhile...of course, that has never stopped me before!
Ant ideas would be appreciated- thanks!

You can purchase an entire new high pressure washer with warrenty. For less than the price of purchasing all the bits and pieces and building one.

That little 5 hp would not have enough snoose to run much of a pump.Hold out till you have at least 10 hp to build a pressure washer.

You might want to check out the Northern Tool catalog in the pressure washer accessories section. It has all the parts you might need to make a pressure washer. Have fun.

Dad and I built one several years back using a 11HP Honda we had laying around. Don't remember what one that size was going for back them but I do remember the cost of the pump alone was way less than the cost of a whole unit. In our case we used a 3000 psi pump and we made a framework for everything that allowed us to pick it up with the cranes on our service truck. We also mounted a large sediment filter, to the cart, on the pump supply line so we could supply the water to it out of a sediment pond using a small gas powered pump. Like I said don't remember the cost of a complete unit but doing it this way saved us alot of money and we got a unit that we can load easily for use in the field. Good luck.

Yup works just fine, within limits. I built exactly what you are talking about a few years ago. My electric pump died on me for about the third time,[last electric pump I"ll own],and I had a nearly new 5hp Briggs sitting around. So I got a Gp pump from Northern and built one. I still have it and use it once in a while, also loan it to friends. Not as nice as the as the 10 horse I since bought, but it gets the job done just not as fast as the bigger one. However by the time you buy the pump, hose, wand, and connectors plus build or buy a cart, I"m not sure you are going to save any money. But it does work.
