In the previous post you guys seem to really like this tool. I've got a sawzall, metal cutting band saw, Skill saw, Cuttoff wheel,angle grinder and oxy-torch. What would I use it for?
When does it really shine?

I bought a portable bandsaw from Harbor Freight for less than $70. It is clearly not the tool a Milwaukie is, but for the number of cuts I make, I can't complain. Sure beads the old hacksaw.

I prefer the Milwaukee brand in most power tools - NOT that I can afford them most of the time! The Milwaukee brand makes the toughest, most dependable power tools I've ever used. That said, I'm "retarded" and I was in the office for my last 15 years at work, but from my "hands on" time, Milwaukee is the best. Another brand may be comprable or better now days but I'm not familure with it.
The bandsaw/ Porta Band is great for working "in the field" or in a home shop. It doesn't make a precision cut - that depends on the operator. It's still a lot cleaner than a cutting torch. A top of the line Portaband is about $300 where a decent stationary saw is considerably more. I'd like to get one of the cheap pedestal saws but even if I had one, there's a lot of stuff I wouldn't want to drag to the shop to cut. And a lot of times it's easier to carry the saw to the work rather than have to move the work and load it into the saw - and support the far end....etc.
The portabands - ALL the brands - do exactly what they were designed for - quick and dirty cuts in the field - and they are excellent at it!

I have a couple of stationary metal cutting saws and a couple of the "portable" metal cutting saws. Each has it's place. The advantage of the portables is that you can take the saw to the job, rather than bringing the job to the saw. An example is working on a trailer. It is much easier to bring the saw to the trailer vrs bringing the trailer to the saw.

Well I guess I will put my two cents in here. Portaband saw, Milwaukee bandsaw are brand names for is a hand portable bandsaws, they are mostly used to cut metels when you cannot get excess to a stationary bandsaw or materials are either too awkward or to big to put on a stationary saw. Bandsaws really shine when you need to make lots of accurate cuts, also make great angle cuts. Once you have a stationary metel cutting bandsaw you will alway wonder how you got along with out it.
There is another choose on metel cutting which is a hot cutoff saw, looks simular to wood cutting power mitre box (commonly called cutoff saw).

I have a Portaband and Milwaukee hand bandsaw, also A stationary saw, I use the stationary far more than either of the portables. Stationary gives a more acurate cut than portables. If I had to choose between portable and stationary, my choice would most definitely be the stationary.HTH

To me a "metal cutting band saw and a "portaband saw" are one and the same. Unless the metal cutting band saw is big and stationary. I think you will find many uses for it, it will make precision, acurate cuts better than a sawzall.
