I am about to run some cable throughtout and it is gonna be a total PITB project.

What is the best coax cable to use from dish to panel box and then run to rooms?

I have a huge spool (Maybe over 500ft) of something that is printed awg22. It looks like normal cable but the rg6 connectors do not work with it.

If I want to do it right, what do I run from my dish to house and then network panel to rooms?

Keep in mind that ideally I would like this cable to service digital HD TV signal and/or cable modem.

I just want to use the most forward thinking/flexible thing I can.

Thanks in advance,

Confused by the options in MD

I'll echo the RG-6 Quad Shielded cable. When I built my house, I ran it from the dish location to the known TV locations. When the dish installer showed up, I simply showed him the ends and he installed the F connectors. I got my cable and connectors at Home Depot. This is a good time to invest in a good crimper tool also.

I hope you are getting one of those free installation and equipment packages. The satellite company should supply you with enough of the proper cable to get from the dish to the tv. Ask for whatever extra cable the installer can spare along with connectors. I got about 50 feet extra. You realize of course that you will see the same channel in all rooms unless you pay a monthly fee for equipment to see different channels in each room. I only use one tv for satellite so I can't help with cabling other rooms.

If you are thinking of using DBS (directv or dish network), the minimum you need is RG-6. I would suggest stepping up further to RG-6 Quad Shield.

RG-59 is only suitable for "classic" cable TV or rooftop antenna work. It might work OK with cable modems, just because that's the installed infrastructure the cable company works with.

But since it is so much work to pull the new cable runs, you might as well go with premium cable.

Use RG-6 Quad Shield. Be sure to use the proper F - Fitting as they are different than standard RG-6 Fittings. HTH

AWG 22 is American Wire Guage size 22 which is plain out old hook up wire. It is not coax. If what you are looking at is coax then the AWG 22 means the center condutor is size 22 which is a cheaper version of RG 59 which normally has a center conductor of AWG 20 which is a larger wire to use with the plugs that uses the wires center conductor stripped.

I think that awg22 cable is used for high speed connections.Rg6 and rg59 are the types I have used for TV.Best to do a search on types of cable.
Good luck,
Naz
